Our nation's lack of an infrastructure for caregiving — which includes things like paid time off and child care — poses a threat to our nation's public health and the financial security of families. COVID-19 demonstrated that every one of us will need to give care or receive it at some point in our lives.
But those who are the least are least likely to have access to paid leave — a benefit that allows workers to give or receive care while keeping their jobs — are faced with an impossible choice: their families or their jobs. Their health or their work.
Without a national paid family and medical leave program, the longstanding inequities that unduly impact women and people of color in our country will continue.
Congress must pass a national paid family and medical leave policy for all working people.
